Great Yarmouth Market Gates - new bus stops from 17/18th May

Following the maintenance and improvement works at Market Gates Bus Interchange as part of the wider Gyratory Scheme, we are pleased to announce that the Interchange will begin a phased reopening from Saturday 17th May 2025. Over the weekend, there will be various road closures to enable the switch which will have details published shortly at this web page.

Once services move back into Market Gates, the relevant temporary stops will be removed and will no longer be served.

From Saturday 17th of May the following bus stands will be open:

Stand D – X1/X11 (& evening 7) to Belton & Lowestoft

Stand E – 1/1A/8/983 to ENSFC & James Paget Hospital, Lowestoft

Stand G – 2/3/3 to Barrack Estate then James Paget Hospital & Burgh Castle, plus 931 to Ormiston Venture Academy

All FirstBus services not mentioned here will continue to use their temporary stops until Monday 19th May.

From Monday 19th of May the remaining stands will reopen:

Stand B – 7/X1/X11 to Norwich

Stand C – 1/1A/8/983 to Caister & Martham

The FirstBus app will be updated with these changes from the start of service on Sunday 18th May - please plan your journey carefully referring back to this information over the transition weekend.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As part of the changes to the road layout around Great Yarmouth - customers who would typically use the Brahams Court, Stonecutters Way, Fitzalan Close & The Gallon Pot stops will need to replan their journeys as our services will no longer serve these stops.

However, a new stop will be introduced on Regent Street (near the junction of Howard Street South) for services heading into Stands B/C (towards Norwich/Caister) at Market Gates. The Town Hall stop will also be relocated to a nearby locaton on South Quay and will continue to recieve the same services at the same times as now.

Thank you for your patience & apologies for any inconvenience caused during these works.

For details on other operator's services and stand allocations, please view the TravelNorfolk website or the respective bus operator's website.

Bernham Road, Hellesdon (37/37B)

From Monday 21st April to Friday 25th July, Bernham Road in Hellesdon will be closed to enable Norfolk County Council to carry out footway reconstruction works, which will have a severe impact on our Purple Line 37/37B services.

In the Hellesdon area, these services will be split in half on Monday to Saturdays daytimes - with one bus an hour operating a loop of Bush Road, Raymond Road & Reepham Road, and one bus an hour operating a loop of Coppice Avenue & Woodland Road. Please see the timetable below (or attachment) for details on bus times on either side of the loop during this closure.

Evening services (shown below as serving both Bush Road & Woodland Road Stores) will operate both loops to serve as many stops as possible during these times where services operate less frequently.

Services south of The Bull roundabout, and all other Purple Line services are not affected by this, and will continue to operate at the same times as now.

Please view the temporary timetable attached below for bus times from either side of Hellesdon during this closure.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to your journey, but we are not responsible for issuing roadworks permits and can only work around these closures.
