You probably already know that Bath is a great city to be a student in, so why not make the most of this beautiful city by jumping on our buses and exploring it?

We've got great services to Bath Spa University, plus a network of buses that go pretty much everywhere else you'll need to go.

For September 2025 we're starting two new routes to serve Newton Park campus, providing over double the bus capacity compared to last year.

U3: Bath Spa University - Oldfield Park - City Centre - University of Bath 

This new route will be operated with double deck vehicles, via Newbridge Rd towards Bath Spa University and via the Lower Bristol Road towards the City Centre. The new route operates through the night in term time.

During holidays a reduced timetable will operate.

U4: Bath Spa University - Twerton - Southdown - Odd Down - Combe Down - University of Bath

This new route provides a direct link to areas in the south of Bath operating half hourly on weekdays in termtime and hourly at weekends and during holidays.

U5: Bath Spa University - Newbridge Road - Twerton Mill - Bath Spa University

The U5 will now operate on termtime weekdays only, and will run only as far as Windsor Bridge.

31: Lansdown Park & Ride - Bath City Centre

Access to the Bath Spa University Sion Hill Campus is provided by Bath Lansdown Park & Ride 31 service, which is just a short walk to Sion Hill Campus. Bath Zone and West of England Zone tickets can be used on this service.

We've got a fantastic range of student tickets, and all students get up to 10% discount on tickets purchased on the First Bus App or using Tap On, Tap Off on services U1-U5. Remember to carry your Bath Spa University student ID, verified Student Beans ID, TOTUM ID or UNiDAYS ID with you when travelling on our buses.

Tap On, Tap Off

If you're only travelling on the U3/U4/U5 (and U1/U2), the easiest way to pay is with Tap On, Tap Off. Just tap your contactless card when you board the bus, and tap the same card/device when you leave, and we'll work out the fare for you! If you only travel on these services you'll be capped at the student Bath Zone prices for a single, 2-Trip, Day or Week depending on how much you travel. Please note, if you use any of our other services in Bath, this will incur the adult fare charges.

Where to buy

Student tickets are available on the free First Bus App. To buy your ticket:

  • Search for ‘First Bus’ in your app store and download the First Bus app
  • Select ‘Bristol, Bath & the West’ area
  • Press Tickets from the bottom menu, then select "Buy"
  • Select Bristol, Bath and the West and then Bath
  • Select Day, Week, Month or Month+ and select the Student ticket you need.
  • For longer term tickets, select the "Student Travel" category towards the bottom.
  • You will be asked to set up an account, please complete the requested details.
  • click Continue and you will be asked to confirm you are a student. 
  • Select a payment method to purchase your ticket 
  • You can either use it straight away or move to the wallet to use later
  • When you want to travel, activate your ticket and then scan the QR code on the bus.
