First Bus has announced from today (Monday 29 September) it is restoring the use of double-decker buses on its X1 Sheffield-Maltby service to increase customer capacity.
The bus operator has trialled the use of single deckers on the route since the summer to help reduce damage to its vehicles caused by overhanging trees, but passenger monitoring revealed that larger vehicles are needed to satisfy demand.
The return of double-deckers will mean a diversion to avoid Middle South Lane where the problem of overgrown trees remains.
The bus stop at Asda heading towards Bristol will be closed overnight to service X1 between 19:00 and 06:00 on Sunday 5th October to facilitate carriageway works.
Service X1 will be diverted and will serve the bus stop on the other side of the road from the bus depot on Searle Crescent. Passengers are advised to board there.

The project is being delivered through a partnership between First Bus and Essex County Council, backed by £4.8 million from the Department for Transport’s Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas (ZEBRA) 2 scheme, alongside a £25.8 million investment from First Bus.
