U22 Free Travel Scheme
Led by The Scottish Government, young people in Scotland aged under 22 years old are entitled to free bus travel.
To access the scheme you must apply for a new National Entitlement Card (NEC) card.
Those aged between 5-15 must have a parent, guardian, or carer apply for a new NEC card on their behalf. Those aged between 16-21 should apply themselves.
- It’s important that you apply for your new NEC Card in order to access the travel scheme, as old Young Scot Cards will not be accepted, and you will be required to pay your fare as normal.

Transport Scotland have launched a new application to help people aged 16-21 access free bus travel. This app allows those who have a Young Scot Entitlement Card (NEC) or non-Young Scot branded NEC, to transfer free bus travel onto their NEC card, without having to apply for a replacement card.
Download the app, Transport Scot Pass Collect.
If you're aged under 22 and live in Scotland, your NEC Card gives you the freedom to explore, travel and create new experiences. Travelling with First Bus is as simple as Plan, Tap, Ride.
