Volunteers from First Bus are lending a helping hand and some heavy lifting to Rochdale Foodbank this month as the charity gears up for expansion of its service and support to the community.

At First Bus Rochdale, we're proud to go beyond the bus. Our Community Good work is all about creating real, lasting impact - whether that's supporting local talent, inspiring young people, volunteering time, or backing local charities. This page highlights how we’re driving change in the communities we serve every day.

One way we show our support for the community is by volunteering, with our colleagues involved in local good causes and initiatives throughout the year across Rochdale, Bury and Greater Manchester.

We open doors for the next generation through careers events, in-school activities, and meaningful placements including T Levels, work experience, and supported internships. From mock interviews and site visits to longer-term opportunities, we give students real experiences that build confidence, develop employability skills, and spark ambition.

We’re proud to champion local charities. Through donations, sponsorships and volunteering, we’ve supported Rochdale Foodbank, Jolly Josh, NorthCare Charity, Springhill Hospice, Rochdale in Bloom, the Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity and Cash for Kids — to name just a few of the causes we’ve helped to thrive.

From planting hospital gardens to providing free bus transport and donating two retired buses for community use, we’ve offered in-kind support that makes a visible difference. In the past year alone, our cash and in-kind contributions have exceeded £10,000, strengthening local projects and community initiatives.
