First Bus route change for more regular Leigh-on-Sea town centre connection
First Bus is introducing new connectivity in Leigh-on-Sea for people travelling from the Blenheim Chase and Eastwood Road areas of the town, working in partnership with funding support from Southend Council.
From Sunday 22 February, its 3A service will change route to continue west along Blenheim Chase, into Eastwood Road and on to London Road, connecting at the Elms junction to pick up the existing route to the town centre.
The change will create more a regular bus service with five bus stops brought into use. Elmsleigh Drive will continue to be served by other Southend Council-supported services.
James McCluskey, Commercial Director of First Bus in Essex, said: “We are delighted to announce the introduction of this new route in partnership with Southend Council.
“This creates improved journeys and better connectivity to enable people to access the town centre.”
Councillor Paul Collins added: “I’m delighted to see the launch of the extended 3A bus route here in Belfairs. Thanks to support from the council’s BSIP funding and our partnership with First Bus, residents along Blenheim Chase and Eastwood Road will have a regular daytime service six days a week for the first time in more than 20 years.
“We’ve invested in new and improved bus stops along the route to make sure public transport is accessible, reliable and attractive for local people. This extension is a great example of how working together can deliver real benefits for our communities, and I’m pleased to be here today to welcome the service as it begins its journey on Sunday 22 February.”
