The below changes, which will see improvements to the overall bus network in the West of England, are part of a bi-annual review of routes, and will come into effect from Sunday 31 August.

For a number of services, the timetable & route will not change - please refer to the unaffected routes drop-down list in each area for these services.

You can find new timetables on our forthcoming timetables page by CLICKING HERE. New print at home route maps & timetables will be added under each service over the coming weeks. 


Bristol

The below services will not change route or timetable in August. Please refer to the existing timetable and route map for these services.

A new overnight service will be introduced, converting the m1 to 24-hour operation on all days of the week. Buses will run half hourly all night, and this will provide earlier morning buses compared to the current 05.30 start time.

The Monday to Friday service at peak times will be improved to run every 10 minutes rather than every 15 minutes. This follows the new later evening and Sunday services that were introduced in April, which will continue to operate. These improvements are supported by revenue from the Bristol Clean Air Zone.

Our University of Bristol services are being restructured for this year, with the extension of services 5 and 77 to Stoke Bishop (please see below). Service U1 will operate approximately every 12 minutes at peaks between Stoke Bishop and Queens Road, and every 30 minutes off peak to and from the City Centre, along the current route. The 5 and 77 will provide more buses between Stoke Bishop, Whiteladies Road, Clifton village, Clifton Triangle and the city centre. The weekend and overnight service will be replaced by new journeys on services 5, 77 and U1N.

The U1N is a new night service operating Monday to Saturday during term time, replacing the current U1 night service. Rather than terminating at and starting from Queen’s Avenue, the U1N will loop around Clifton Triangle, serving more well-located bus stops.

The U2 will see a significant expansion to the service, being extended beyond Langford to and from Weston-super-Mare, via Churchill, Sandford and Banwell – creating a new direct link from these places to and from Bristol. In Weston-super-Mare, the U2 will run from the Helicopter Museum via Haywood Village, Oldmixon, Weston General Hospital, Coronation Estate and Broadoak to the town centre, as per service 7, maintaining four buses an hour between the Hospital and town centre, and increasing the number of buses between Haywood Village, Oldxmixion and town. Buses will run hourly including during the evenings. Due to low usage, the Sunday service will no longer operate. The Falcon coach service continues to link Langford with Bristol on this day of the week. 

In Bristol city centre, buses will now terminate at Bristol Bus Station instead of at Rupert Street. 

The expanded U2 service is supported by the University of Bristol and North Somerset Council.

Service U3 will be replaced by the new overnight service being introduced on metrobus service m1. 

Service 1 will have an overnight service added on Monday – Saturday nights, with buses running hourly along the whole route. This includes an earlier morning journey from Cribbs Causeway to Broomhill.  

The evening short journeys that run between Henbury Crow Lane and Temple Meads Station will now operate between Henbury and Broad Weir/Union Street in the city centre only, with extra time added to improve punctuality. The rest of the timetable will also be revised on all days of the week to improve punctuality as we head into the busier autumn period.

Night buses will be introduced on service 2 on Friday and Saturday nights, supported by revenue from the Bristol Clean Air Zone. 

The timetable will be revised on Monday to Fridays and Saturdays to improve punctuality and reliability. On Sundays there are minor changes to morning and evening departure times from Cribbs Causeway and Stockwood.

Night buses will be introduced on service 4 on Friday and Saturday nights, supported by revenue from the Bristol Clean Air Zone. The timetable will be revised on Monday to Friday to improve punctuality and reliability as we head into the busier autumn period.

Service 5 will be extended beyond Clifton Village to and from Stoke Bishop via Whiteladies Road, providing new links between the Stoke Bishop Residences and the University of Bristol campus with Clifton, the city centre, Old Market and St Anne’s. During University holidays, buses will run as far as Blackboy Hill rather than Stoke Bishop. 

An earlier morning journey will be introduced from Clifton to the City Centre, and an hourly night bus will operate between the City Centre and St. Anne’s on Friday and Saturday nights, funded by the Bristol Clean Air Zone. These night buses will start from bus stop C4 in Broad Quay at The Centre, rather than stop C8 outside the Hippodrome.

Hourly night buses will be introduced on Friday and Saturday nights, supported by the Bristol Clean Air Zone.

An earlier morning journey will be introduced towards the City Centre on weekdays, leaving Staple Hill at 4.50am and arriving at 5.30am.

The 8 will have a revised timetable for the busier autumn period.

This service will be extended beyond Bristol city centre to Whitchurch, via The Centre, Temple Meads Station, St John’s Lane, Redcatch Hill, Broadwalk Square, Melvin Square, Imperial Park (stopping at the main road 'Wills Way' stops on Hartcliffe Way), Hengrove Park and Windways, providing several new links and creating a new cross-city service.

Buses will run half hourly during the daytime on all days of the week. This new service is funded by revenue from the Bristol Clean Air Zone. The timetable will be revised on the existing City Centre – Fishponds section, to improve punctuality. Buses towards Kingswood and Fishponds will no longer serve stop B6 on Rupert Street, please use Nelson Street stop B5 instead.

Route 19 will have a frequency improvement on all days of operation, with buses now operating every 35-40 minutes. Evening journeys will be extended from Downend to Bristol Parkway Station, and there will be later journeys from Bristol Parkway back towards Bath too. These changes are supported by Bus Service Improvement Plan Funding from the Combined Authority. Buses will return to serving Frenchay village in both directions.

The 24 will have a revised timetable to improve punctuality as we head into the busier autumn period. 

An earlier weekday morning journey from Southmead Hospital will be introduced, with funding from the Bristol Clean Air Zone.

Following a tendering exercise by the Combined Authority, we will operate the 25 that runs between the City Centre and Fishponds, currently operated by Stagecoach. Buses will operate every 30 minutes during the daytime on weekdays and every 20-25 minutes during peak times. On weekends, buses will run hourly.

Service 37 will have timetable alterations to improve punctuality, and ensure on-time arrivals into Avonmouth and Severn Beach Trading Estate. The route will now serve Avonmouth Village, with buses operating normal route along the Portway, then left into Avonmouth Road, then McLaren Road to St. Andrew’s Roundabout and then as before.

The 39 and X39 will have a revised timetable on all days of operation. Buses will now run all through the night on Monday - Saturday nights (Tuesday-Sunday mornings).

Journeys to and from Imperial Park will now serve Temple Meads Station between Bedminster Parade and The Centre, providing a direct link to the station from Imperial Park, Bishopsworth, Bedminster Down and Bedminster. Buses towards Warmley will operate from Bedminster Bridge Roundabout via Clarence Road, Temple Gate and Redcliffe Way, stopping at Temple Meads Station bus stop T4 on Redcliffe Way. Buses towards Imperial Park will operate from Redcliffe Roundabout via Redcliffe Way, Temple Gate, Bath Bridges Roundabout and York Road to Bedminster Parade, stopping at Temple Meads Station bus stop T1 on Temple Gate. Buses will also operate to and from Imperial Park later into the evening than now, and an early morning journey funded by the Bristol Clean Air Zone will operate from Imperial Park on weekday mornings too. 

On Friday and Saturday nights, the overnight service will extend beyond Kingswood to Cadbury Heath. This extension is funded by the Bristol Clean Air Zone.

Service 77 will be extended beyond Clifton Down to and from Stoke Bishop, providing new links between the Stoke Bishop Residences and the University of Bristol campus with Clifton, the city centre, Gloucester Road and Muller Road Top. During University holidays, buses will run as far as Blackboy Hill rather than Stoke Bishop. 

Buses will operate every half hour overnight during university term times along the full route. 

Buses heading southbound from Stoke Bishop to Clifton will run via Whiteladies Road, and the top section of Pembroke Road will no longer be served.

Following a tender award using revenue from the Bristol Clean Air Zone, First Bus will operate new evening journeys on this service. The daytime service will remain operated by The Big Lemon.

Service X7 will be re-routed to follow the service X7a route with all journeys now running via Long Ashton. The X7a number will be discontinued for simplicity with all journeys running as service X7. Punctuality based improvements will also be introduced with buses running to a slightly reduced frequency to improve reliability. Buses will run every 70 minutes on weekdays and Saturdays, and hourly on Sundays.

Operating on college term days only, it serves Weston-super-Mare Interchange, South West Skills Campus, Worle Terminus and Clevedon before heading to Rolls Royce & Cleve Road in Filton.

Yate & Thornbury

The timetable will be revised on all days to improve punctuality going into the busier autumn period. 

The northbound diversion at Bradley Stoke will remain in place, and is expected to finish in December 2025.

North Somerset

This service will have its usual winter season frequency reduction with the Monday to Friday, Saturday and Sunday frequency decreased from every 30 minutes to every 60 minutes. The Sunday service will operate up to and including Sunday 2nd November 2025, and then finish until the spring.

The 0755 short journey from Worle on weekdays will be withdrawn. There will be no other changes to the timetable. 

Please see information about services 7B, 7H, U2 and X5 if you use the Weston-super-Mare town centre, Coronation Estate, General Hospital, Oldmixon and Haywood Village section of route.

Buses will run cross-town on most journeys through Weston, directly linking Weston College and Weston Hospital with Worle, Clevedon and Portishead, approximately every 70 minutes Monday to Saturday. Running from Weston Interchange toward Hutton, buses will follow the existing 7B route to Bleadon Hill before continuing to Hutton via Oldmixon Road. Buses returning from Hutton, toward Weston and Portishead, will follow the existing 7H route back to Weston Interchange and then the existing X5 route thereafter to Clevedon and Portishead. Through this extension, Bleadon Hill will receive a reintroduced Saturday service.

The X18 is a new service on college days that will link Nailsea, Backwell, Cleeve, Claverham, Congresbury, Worle, Locking Road, South West Skills Campus, Weston-super-Mare town centre, Weston College, the sea front and Loxton Campus. The service will be open to all, and our standard fares will apply.

The X21 is a new service on college days that will link Brigwater, Dunball, Highbridge, Burnham-on-Sea, Berrow, East Brent, Loxton Campus, Weston-super-Mare town centre and South West Skills Campus. The service will be open to all, and our standard fares will apply. First Bus Somerset tickets will be accepted along the common section of route with the 21 and 21A Taunton services.

Bath & Somerset

The timetable will be revised on all days of operation to improve reliability. In Bath City Centre, buses will now terminate at and start from stop Bk on Dorchester Street outside the bus station, instead of stop Bh beside the railway station. When arriving from Mulberry Park, they will additionally drop off at Manvers Street stop Be.

This will be a new service operating between Twerton Mill and the City Centre, alongside service 5, providing additional capacity in association with changes to service U5. Buses will operate in the mornings from Twerton Mill towards Bath, and in the evenings from Bath to Twerton Mill. In addition, during term times there will be additional buses during weekday afternoons.

The 13 will have a revised timetable with service improvements thanks to Bus Service Improvement Plan funding from the Combined Authority – buses will now run into evenings across the whole route on Monday – Saturday evenings, and we’ll be running on Sundays too! The morning Ralph Allen School journey trip will operate on all weekdays.

We are making significant changes to our University services in Bath this year, to improve capacity at key locations and times of the day, and introduce a number of new direct links. 

The U1, which currently operates between the University of Bath, the city centre, Green Park and at off peak times, Oldfield Park, will now operate only between the University, city centre and Green Park. Route U2 and new route U3 will continue to link the Oldfield Park area and the University of Bath. Overnight buses will now run as new service U1N.

This will be a new evening and night service, operating the same route as U1 as far as Dorchester Street and then extending to St James Cemetery at Oldfield Park, via Green Park. During term times, buses will operate every 30 minutes overnight, providing a bus every 15 minutes when combined with the new U3.

We are making significant changes to our University services in Bath this year, to improve capacity at key locations and times of the day, and introduce a number of new direct links. 

The U2 that runs from the University of Bath to St James Cemetery at Oldfield Park via Pulteney Road and Rossiter Road (not via the city centre), will continue on the same route as before. Off peak journeys that currently loop round via Lower Oldfield Park will no longer do so – all buses will start from St James Cemetery and then run directly to Lower Bristol Road (Riverside Road stop).

We are making significant changes to our University services in Bath this year, to improve capacity at key locations and times of the day, and introduce a number of new direct links. 

The U3 will be a new service linking Bath Spa University to the University of Bath, operating during term time and holidays. This will replace the U1 and the U5 as the main university services.  

Buses will operate from the University of Bath via Bathwick Hill, the City Centre, Green Park, St James Cemetery, Windsor Bridge and Newbridge Road to Bath Spa University, enabling double deckers to be used to increase capacity. Buses running from Bath Spa University will run via the full length of Lower Bristol Road to Green Park, then via the City Centre to the University of Bath. Please see the U5 below for the link between Bath Spa University and Newbridge Road.

We are making significant changes to our University services in Bath this year, to improve capacity at key locations and times of the day, and introduce a number of new direct links. 

New service U4 will replace current service 22 that runs between the University of Bath and Southdown. The U4 will run beyond Southdown via Whiteway and Twerton to Bath Spa University, creating a new link right across the southern part of Bath. The route around Southdown will be changed compared to the 22 – please check the route map for full information. The U4 will operate on all days during term time, and on weekdays only during University holidays, with funding from the Combined Authority.

The main service between Bath Spa University and the City Centre will now be provided by service U3 – please see above. The U5 will be changed to operate a loop between Bath Spa University, Newbridge Road, Windsor Bridge and Lower Bristol Road back to the University. For travel from the University to Lower Bristol Road, and travel from Newbridge Road to the University, please see service U3 which will operate in the opposite direction. The new U5 will operate during Monday – Friday term and revision times only.
