Due to long term roadworks closing the road at Whitnell Corner, 173 has been rerouted via Shepton Mallet. This is expected to last for at least six months.

Service 173 towards Bath will leave Wells Bus Station and divert via Bishops Park Way and the A371 through Croscombe, Darshill and Bowlish into Shepton Mallet. At Shepton Mallet, they will turn left to serve Great Ostry, then follow the A37 to Gurney Slade, resuming normal route at Kings Lane.

Service 173 towards Wells will operate normal route to Gurney Slade, then divert via the A37 into Shepton Mallet, and then onto Bowlish, Darshill, Croscombe and into Wells along Bishops Park Way.

All bus stops will be served along the diversion route in both directions. Please note - the 173 will not go into Dinder village, or to Shepton Mallet Cenotaph stop like the 174 does.

In Gurney Slade, a pair of temporary bus stops has been positioned by the George Inn. 

We are not able to serve any of the bus stops along the section of route through South Horrington, West Horrington and Binegar, due to the lack of a suitable alternative route for buses. However, Somerset Council are running a shuttle service with a minibus between Wells, South Horrington, West Horrington and Haydon. The timetable is shown below.
