Great Bristol Run diversions - 2026

On 10th May 2026 the Great Bristol Run will mean many roads across Bristol are closed between 04:00 and 14:00-14:45 (Anchor Road until 18:00). Following disruption to the network for most of the day in the last couple of years due to increased congestion and gridlock on diversionary routes, we are making a number of changes to our diversions for the 2026 event. Many routes will stop short of the City Centre and / or not run cross-city, with the aim of keeping buses out of the worst of the congestion and ensuring that we can still provide a service to the rest of the city.

Routes 1 and 2:

Routes 1 and 2 will not run through across the City Centre from the start of service until roads re-open at 14:00, and will instead operate in two separate sections. Buses coming from Cribbs Causeway towards the City Centre will terminate at Clifton Triangle, outside Sainsbury’s (bus stop U2). Buses towards Cribbs Causeway will start from Clifton Triangle outside Sainsbury’s (bus stop U2), and go around the Triangle to resume normal route from Triangle West (stop U3).

Buses coming from Broomhill (route 1) or Stockwood (route 2) towards the City Centre will run normal route to Temple Meads Station, but on Temple Way, instead of turning left into Counterslip, will continue ahead and terminate at Old Market Roundabout, at bus stop M2 on the slip road just before the traffic lights. They will then run out of service around the roundabout and go to bus stop M1 on the slip road the other side of Temple Way (facing Temple Meads Station again), and resume service back to Broomhill/Stockwood from there.

Revised timetables will be in operation. Buses will resume running through service when roads re-open after 14:00.

Service 8 will be running between Old Market Roundabout and Clifton Triangle/Triangle West all day via a diversionary route – with same stop interchange from the 1 or 2 onto the 8 and vice versa for any passengers needing to change buses.

Routes 3 and 4:

From the start of service until 14:00, buses coming from Cribbs Causeway towards the City Centre will terminate at Clifton Triangle, outside Sainsbury’s (bus stop U2). Buses towards Cribbs Causeway will start from Clifton Triangle outside Sainsbury’s (stop U2), and go around the Triangle to resume normal route from Triangle West (stop U3).
