Try Yate Park & Ride for free!
Customers using Yate’s new Park and Ride in May and June will be able to take advantage of a raft of offers from free tickets to money off vouchers.
Between Monday 23 and Friday 27 May the first 50 customers travelling between 6.45am and 9am each day from the Badminton Road site can snap up a free West of England Day ticket, as well as a voucher for 20% off another Day ticket for future trips.
During half term from 30 May – 1 June, there will be 70 free Day Group tickets worth £15 each up for grabs each day from 9.30-11am to encourage families to use the service to get into Bristol city centre over the holiday period, as well as a voucher with 20% off a further Day Group ticket to use another day.
The £4.5m new Park and Ride transport hub, delivered by South Gloucestershire Council, opened in early February and is open seven days a week (excl Bank holidays). It is served by the Y1 every 30 mins Mon to Sat and hourly on Sunday and the Y4 which runs every 90 mins Monday to Sunday. The Y6 also goes past the site and serves Bristol Parkway, Cribbs Causeway and Southmead Hospital.
The new facility includes 38 electric vehicle (EV) charge points, 198 parking spaces and cycle parking for 46 bikes, as well as improved bus stops. The A432 corridor between Bristol, Yate and Chipping Sodbury will continue to benefit from investment in public transport over the next five years, which will see bus service provision improve.
In the coming months further facilities will be installed including bike hire, a car club and click and collect lockers. The car park will also be available for rail users at Yate Station, which is just an eight-minute walk from the site.
The new hub will help reduce traffic along the congested A432 Badminton Road corridor by providing an attractive alternative to car travel. It’s Ideal for those travelling into Bristol, Bristol Parkway, Cribbs Causeway or Southmead Hospital from Yate, Chipping Sodbury, Iron Acton, Old Sodbury, Wickwar, Cromhall & Rangeworthy.
Doug Claringbold, First West of England Managing Director, said: “These offers are designed to encourage more people to experience the benefits of leaving the car behind, whether they be commuters or families getting out and about for leisure. It’s also part of our commitment to helping deliver a more sustainable future for the communities we serve.”
Cllr Steve Reade, South Gloucestershire Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Environment and Strategic Infrastructure, said: “We are pleased to be working with First West of England to offer people living in and around Yate some great offers in May and June that will give them the chance to experience the convenience of the Park and Ride facility. It supports sustainable travel in Yate, Chipping Sodbury and the surrounding area and is part of our ambition to create more green travel options for our residents and contribute towards our Climate Change goals to reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality.”
Travel advisors will be at the Park & Ride on the morning of 1 June to assist customers and answer any questions and a further team will be on hand throughout the period of the promotion to hand out the free tickets before customers board and advise on bus routes and timetables. They will also be offering giveaways to support sustainable and active travel.
