First Essex is taking part in the Government £2 Bus Fare Cap Grant scheme. This means that most single journeys across our Essex network will cost no more than £2 between 1st January to 31st October 2023.


Students attending South Essex College can purchase discounted bus travel for First Essex buses.

Tickets can be purchased via the First Bus App (as an mTicket) and get students to and from campuses:

  • Basildon Campus
  • Luckyn Lane Campus
  • Southend 
  • Stephenson Road 
  • Thurrock 

Travel Zones available:

Basildon Outer: Travel in Basildon and to Brentwood, Orsett, Grays, Canvey Island, Wickford, Billericay, Stanford-le-Hope, Southend-on-Sea, Castle Point and Rayleigh. 

London Road: Valid for travel on Services 21, 27 and 28, on London Road, between Thundersley (Kenneth Road) and Southend-on-Sea only.

Southend Metro: Travel in Southend-on-Sea and to Castle Point, Rayleigh and Rochford. This ticket is also valid for travel on Service 22 and Service 28 through Pitsea and Basildon.

Thurrock: Travel in and around Thurrock to Orsett Hospital, Stifford Clays, Grays, West Thurrock and Lakeside.
