Moving everyday life beyond buses

At First Bus we’re not just about running buses; as part of our effort to move everyday life we’re proud to support the local communities that we serve. This means we want to support you – local groups and societies – to keep our communities green, thriving and inclusive.

We support causes that matter to you, the people of south Wales, Worcester and the West of England.

At First Bus, we believe in keeping society moving for all. We’ve been helping local communities move from A to B every single day for over 30 years - but we also want to move everyday life beyond buses.

We’re giving local community groups and good causes the opportunity to apply for funding to help support three key themes to make our communities even better; that are greener, thriving and more inclusive.

As a business, we’ve committed to be zero emissions by 2035. By replacing our vehicles with electric buses helping to save 75 tonnes of CO2 – the equivalent to removing 54 cars off the road - we are making our communities greener. We’re also creating and sponsoring projects that reduce carbon emissions, lower energy consumption, and enhance green spaces.

Beyond providing transport that contributes to economic growth, we create and sponsor projects that preserve or create jobs, improve our local economy and help people boost their skills and productivity - all to help improve living standards.

Beyond improving access to essential services, jobs and social opportunities, we create and sponsor projects to empower individuals, especially people from disadvantaged backgrounds, and changing their lives for the better by tackling loneliness and mental health issues.

What can we offer?

We are offering funding to projects across the area that we serve, including Worcester, south Wales and the West of England (including Bristol, Bath, Weston-super-Mare, Wells and neighbouring towns and villages).

Not-for-profit groups, clubs, societies and schools can apply for a maximum grant of £1,000 each.

What are the deadlines?

Each year we plan to award grants twice a year, in April and six months later in October.

Anyone wanting to apply for funding should submit their application by the last day of February (for April’s grants) and the last day of August (for October’s grants).

What happens next?

A team at First Bus will review all the applications to ensure they meet at least one of our themes of communities that are green, thriving or/and inclusive before successful applicants are informed.

Please note that not all applications will be successful either because they do not meet our criteria, our T&Cs cannot be met or due to funding availability. Whether or not you are successful you will receive a response from the First Bus team at the start of April or October depending on which funding round you have applied for.
