Changes to U1/U1A Service From the 24th July

From 24th July, due to the ongoing roadworks on the A30 we have taken the difficult decision to split the U1/U1A service at Truro.

The reason we are doing this is to maintain the reliability of these services, while we have additional summer traffic and the ongoing roadworks on the A30, we have agreed a timetable with Cornwall council that will have a minimal impact for most customers.

The services will be split Monday to Saturday daytime when we are experiencing most delays.  At quieter times buses will continue to operate through as they do now.

Departures from Falmouth, Truro and Newquay remain at the same published times in the current timetable books, but daytime services running between Truro & Newquay in both directions will arrive at the next stop after crossing the works at Chiverton  up to 10 minutes later than is currently advertised.

We will endeavour to allow connections from services from Falmouth to Truro to allow passengers to get to the hospital as an example on the departing U1/U1A, but through fares will be available to any available service to allow the customer journey to continue.

Services arriving from Newquay passengers will need to change for the next departure towards Falmouth.

Changes to bus fares in Cornwall

It has been announced that from the 1st July the £2 single journey cap is set to continue.

It will be available across Cornwall until the end of October, so however long your single journey may be, it will not cost more than £2.

We’ve frozen all singles, returns and town products however, there will be some rises to other fares from July 2nd including our multi-journey tickets, which will be going up in order to minimise the impact of our increased operating costs. However, day, week and monthly tickets still offer great value and are still lower than their March 2022 price when Government funding from the Department for Transport launched Make Big Savings by Bus. The scheme offers discounted bus fares to everyone across the county and saw Transport for Cornwall reduce most bus fares by 35% in April 2022.

You will still be able to buy the great value £5 day ticket when you buy a bundle of five and our adult single fares start from only £1.60.

Here’s a summary of the new prices.

Park for Truro - Changes from Tuesday 2nd May 2023

Following feedback from our customers, we are pleased to announce that from 2 May 2023, tickets purchased from the First Bus App will have extended expiry dates.

First Bus App Ticket Previous Expiry Date New Expiry Date
5 Day Ticket 1 Calendar Month 60 Days
20 Day Ticket 3 Calendar Months 180 Days
60 Day Ticket 6 Calendar Months 1 Year

£2 Fare Cap from 1st January - 31st October 2023

From 1st January 2023 as part of the UK Government initiative and Help for Households, there will be a maximum price of £2.00 for a single journey on the bus, and £4.00 for a return.

In Cornwall, most routes are included in the scheme.

There are some exceptions to the fare cap:

  • MUL104
  • V1
  • Truro Park & Ride

These are primarily for school contracts and therefore not covered by the scheme.

Both Adult & Child single fares will be capped at £2.00, and returns £4.00.

Any customer using the Tap-On Tap-Off in Cornwall will also see their fares capped to the best possible value.
