It’s been a year since our York depot became one of the first in the country to reach net zero emissions, and the difference it’s making to the city is now clearer than ever.

Recent figures from the City of York Council show that our fully electric bus fleet has helped deliver a 27% reduction in nitrogen dioxide levels around Gillygate and Bootham, two of the city’s busiest junctions. Every day, our York city services and Rawcliffe Bar Park & Ride buses help keep people moving, and now they’re doing it while helping to clean the air too.

Cleaner Air, Greener Journeys

With a fleet of 86 all-electric buses running from our James Street depot, we’re saving around 5,000 tonnes of CO2e every year. That’s a major step forward in improving local air quality and supporting York’s ambition to be a cleaner, greener place to live, work and visit.

Our journey to net zero has been made possible thanks to close collaboration with the City of York Council and government funding that helped us transform our depot into a state-of-the-art, all-electric facility.

This milestone also goes beyond zero tailpipe emissions, it includes powering our depot sustainably and reducing other direct operational emissions to make sure we’re truly net zero across the board.

We’re proud to see the positive impact that cleaner, quieter, electric buses are having across the city. Together with our partners, we’ll keep driving forward to create a healthier environment and a more sustainable transport network for everyone in York.
