Inclusive communities: HTFC special bus service
More than 40 Huddersfield Town supporters were able to attend our final home fixture of the 2024/25 Sky Bet League One season at the John Smith’s Stadium thanks to a special bus service arranged in partnership with First Bus.
Led by the Club’s Supporter Services team alongside Official Travel Partner First Bus, the dedicated double decker bus followed a route that set off from Batley, stopping en route to the John Smith’s Stadium via Dewsbury, Thornhill, Savile Town and Ravensthorpe.
Unfortunately, supporters based in those areas can often find it difficult to attend matches due to limited direct bus routes and the increasing costs associated with alternative travel options, which negatively impacts low-income households especially. An extension of our Terriers Together ethos to make the Club as open and accessible as possible, this scheme has the potential to further remove those barriers for entry.
Having committed to Pledgeball’s Sustainable Travel Charter, the initiative also has the potential to support the Club’s ongoing goal of reducing the carbon footprint associated with match day travel.
Huddersfield Town Group Ticketing Executive Lisa Bottomley commented:
“Through our ongoing engagement with supporters and the wider community, we know how challenging it can be for some supporters to attend matches due to travel costs, particularly within disadvantaged areas.
“We’re proud to be working with First Bus who have supported us in trialling a more accessible travel option for supporters, and we hope to see this grow going forward.”
Mubs Mahmed at First Bus North & West added:
“Connecting communities is at the heart of what we do. When we learned about the passionate fanbase within the South Asian community and the barriers they face in seeing their team play, we knew we had the opportunity to help.”
The initiative also supports Huddersfield Town’s ongoing goal of reducing the carbon footprint associated with matchday travel.
“Taking the bus is not only a more sustainable way to travel, but it also helps cut down congestion, benefiting all road users.” added Mubs Mahmed.
