Worcester Carnival closures and diversions

Worcester Carnival is taking place on Saturday 1st July, and we are expecting the roads to be closed at the following points from 1445 to 1700;

  • A38 Castle Street/Foregate Street/The Tything junction.
  • A38 Sidbury/City Walls Road/College Street junction.
  • A44 main Worcester City Centre bridge, both directions.
  • Junction of Lowesmoor/Sansome Street/City Walls Road/ St.Nicholas’ Street.

SERVICES 30/31/44/417
These services will start and terminate at the layby next to the river and the main Worcester Bridge will be closed during the event. Services expected to start by the river are;

SERVICE 30 – departures from Crowngate between and including 1445 to 1645.
SERVICE 31 – 1515 / 1615 departures from Crowngate.
SERVICE 44 – 1500 / 1530 / 1600 / 1630 departures from Crowngate.
SERVICE 417 – 1605 departure from Crowngate.

SERVICES 34/35/38

These services will be starting and terminating in Lowesmoor during the event, as we will have no access from Lowesmoor onto St. Nicholas’ Street and no access onto The Butts from Crowngate Bus Station. Services expected to start at Lowesmoor are;

SERVICE 35 – All departures from Crowngate from 1454 through to 1654.
SERVICE 34 – Departures from Crowngate at 1506 / 1536 / 1606 / 1636.
SERVICE 38 – Departures from Crowngate at 1455 / 1525 / 1555 / 1625 / 1655. 

Please note Sansome Street and Crowngate Bus Station will not be served during this closure.

SERVICES 36/144

  • Service 36 will depart Crowngate normally throughout the event – however the 1530 service will be unable to serve Foregate Street Station and will divert via Farrier Street onto The Tything. The 1455 service form the Hospital to City Centre will use St. Mary’s Street and terminate at Lowesmoor.
  • Service 144 – The 1440 service will depart Crowngate normally.
  • The 1500 service will start from The Tything – opposite the Saracen’s Head pub and will NOT serve Crowngate Bus Station or Foregate Street Station.
  • The 1520 service will start from Crowngate Bus Station but will be slightly delayed leaving. It will also need to divert from The Butts onto Farrier Street to access The Tything and  will NOT serve Foregate Street Station.
  • The 1540 service and all following services will depart Crowngate Bus Station normally.
  • Service 144 heading towards Worcester City Centre between 1445 and the road reopening will be diverted via St.Mary’s Street, Sansome Street into Lowesmoor where passengers will be alighted.

SERVICES 32/45/X50

  • Service 32 will start and terminate at The Albion bus stop, and service 45 will start and terminate in Sidbury while the closure at the junction of College Street/City Walls Road/Sidbury is in place.
  • We anticipate the affected trips to be the 1425/1525/1625 service 32, and 1455 and 1555 service 45. This means bus stops at Crowngate Bus Station and Cathedral will not be served during this closure.
  • Service X50 will start from Sidbury heading towards Evesham at 1510 and 1610. This means bus stops at Crowngate Bus Station and Cathedral will not be served during this closure.
  • Service X50 towards Worcester (leaving Evesham at 1410/1510) will divert from Whittington via A4440 and A38 Bath Road to enable it to be heading in the right direction for the following outbound journey. On these journeys, bus stops between Whittington Bus Lay-by and Crowngate Bus Station will not be served. Passengers will instead be alighted at Sidbury bus stop on Bath Road.

We will have extra staff around on the day in key areas to ensure our operation runs as smoothly as possible during the event.
