Inclusive communities: Bringing communities together with Leeds Playhouse
We have joined forces with Leeds Playhouse in a new partnership that celebrates creativity, inclusion, and connection across communities, including people who are new to the city.
As one of West Yorkshire’s leading bus operators, we're proud to support the Playhouse’s pioneering Theatre of Sanctuary programme. Through this partnership, we are helping to remove transport barriers, making it easier for participants to access creative opportunities and engage with the arts in a welcoming, inclusive space.
Over the next year, we will provide travel support to the Playhouse to help more people experience the powerful and inspiring work of the Theatre of Sanctuary.
Leeds Playhouse became the world’s first Theatre of Sanctuary in 2014 and has since become a national leader in celebrating and amplifying the voices of refugees and people seeking asylum. The programme includes choirs, youth groups, conversation cafés and performance sharings. All are exploring the lived experiences of those seeking safety.
At its heart, Theatre of Sanctuary celebrates what unites us rather than what divides us, an ethos that perfectly reflects the values of both organisations.
Together, Leeds Playhouse and First Bus are helping to make arts and culture accessible to everyone, building a more connected, inclusive city for all.
