We're able to offer cheaper bus travel to young people, from 5 to 18 years of age!
The BSIP-funded youth fares scheme has been extended until 31st December 2024. The discounted tickets are part of our collaboration with the City of York Council and other bus operators within the Enhanced Partnership. By keeping fares low for young persons, we can help to build sustainable travel habits and address cost of living concerns.
Under 5's
Children under the age of 5 travel for free on our buses.
Accompanied Children
Up to 3 accompanied 5 – 16 year olds travel free of charge with any fare paying adult.

Young People aged 11 to 16
Your YOzone card will last until 31 August after your 16th birthday. You'll need to show your YOzone card to the driver to buy a Child Single ticket, and each time you use a FirstDay, FirstWeek or FirstMonth ticket.

Young People aged 16 to 18
The YOzone 16-18 card is available free to any young person aged 16-18 who lives or studies in the City of York Council area.
When you turn 16, keep using your YOzone 11-16 card until you finish Year 11 in order to get the lowest possible bus fares available.
During August, when you've completed Year 11, you can apply for your YOzone 16-18 card as soon as you know which school or college you'll be attending in Year 12. If you live outside York you'll still need to be enrolled at a York school or college.
You'll need to show your YOzone card or College card each time you use one of the following tickets:

Ticket Gifting

Forms of Identification
Young persons will need to provide some form of evidence they are the appropriate age. These forms of identification include:
- A valid YOzone 16-18 card
- A valid YOzone 11-16 card
- School uniform
- School/College ID
- Operator-issued ID
- Passport
- Driver’s license
