Changes to our fares
From 1st May 2022, we'll be making changes to our fares and ticket range, offering customers greater flexibility and value when they travel by bus.
What's Changing?
- Introducing Tap On, Tap Off!
- New Two-Trip 24 Hour Tickets
- New Flexible Ticket Bundles
- Changes to selected fares, as part of our first review since 2019.
While some fares have been frozen at 2019 prices – such as Family and Airport tickets – the overhaul of First Glasgow’s ticketing options will see some fares increase by an average of 6.2%. However, First Glasgow expects that these fare changes will help many customers save money as new tickets have been designed to reflect today’s travel habits following a detailed analysis of passenger and purchasing data.
We have introduced even more flexible mobile and on bus tickets for Adults and Students, as well as new options such as Two-Trip 24 Hr tickets (from £4.50 on the First Bus App). These new options should be more cost-effective in comparison to previous prices as they have been designed to suit the emergence of more hybrid working and the end of the traditional five-day commute. Within the ticket changes that are coming into effect, First Bus has made sure that no fares will increase by more than the current CPI inflation rate.
Please view our Customer Guide on changes to our fares here.
Introducing Tap On, Tap Off (TOTO)
TOTO, as we call it, offers the ultimate flexibility. Simply 'Tap On' with the driver when you board, and 'Tap Off' when you leave the bus using our second card reader on board. We'll calculate your fare based on the distance you travel. The more you tap, the more you save.
You'll never pay more than
Two-Trip (Return)* | Day | Week | |
City or Local Zone | £4.50 | £5.00 | £18.70 |
Network Zone | £5.50 | £6.70 | £24.50 |
*If using TOTO, the journeys must be travelled on the same calendar day for the price cap to be applied.
TOTO is only available on First Glasgow services. The technology is not yet available on our First Midland services (e.g. Glasgow / Stirling X36, Glasgow / Falkirk X37, Balfron / Glasgow X10). If you are using TOTO and board a First Midland service operating within the Glasgow area you will not be able to tap on/off – in which case you will either have to buy a separate ticket or wait for an alternative First Bus Glasgow service where available (e.g. 60/60A/61 or X3).

New Two Trip 24hr Tickets
We've reviewed the usage of our current Day Tickets, and realised that many people only travel twice. The Two-Trip 24hr ticket offers a value-for-money solution for those only planning to travel twice in one day. This ticket, available on the First Bus App will issue two single tickets into your ticket wallet, which must be used within 24 hours from the time the first ticket is activated. The Two-Trip 24hr ticket can also be purchased on bus.

New Flexible Day Ticket Bundles
Following a detailed analysis of passenger and purchasing data, our new Flexible Day Ticket bundles offer a solution to suit hybrid working and the end of the traditional commute. Better value for customers who currently purchase a weekly, or monthly ticket and do not travel every day. In new options of 3-in-7, 5-in-7, and 15-in-28 bundles!
For example, those currently purchasing a First4Week ticket who end up not travelling every day due to a hybrid working pattern, can save money by buying a 15-in-28 instead and still retain the comfort and peace of mind of buying once a month.
