Service Changes from January 16th 2022
Changes to First Essex Bus Times from 16th January 2022
Following feedback from our customers and our staff, we are changing a number of timetables across the county to reflect changes in traffic levels and congestion that has impacted the reliability of your bus services.
Route 9 (Basildon to Brentwood) has a new timetable on Mondays to Fridays to improve reliability with additional time added where needed to reflect the time buses take to travel along the route.
Route 20 (Southend to Hullbridge) has a new timetable on Mondays to Fridays with additional time added in both directions in the morning and afternoon school periods to reflect the increase in congestion on the route. An additional vehicle is being used and if this cost cannot be sustained, or congestion worsens further, we will have to consider how else we can provide a reliable service on this route, possibly with less journeys running at these times.
Route 25 (Basildon to Southend) is again improved on Mondays to Fridays with additional time taken in the morning and afternoon school periods from Southend to Basildon. Additional resource is being deployed to the route after the morning school period so that, if further delays occur, they do not continue throughout the day.
Route 37 (Warley to Bishops Hall) has more time allowed in the morning peak period for journeys from Bishops Hall Estate to Brentwood Station due to increased congestion. As a result of this congestion buses will now run every 15 minutes between Bishops Hall Estate and Brentwood Station but only every 30 minutes between Brentwood Station and Warley.
Route 42 (Broomfield Hospital to Galleywood) has suffered from significantly increased congestion in the peak periods between Broomfield Parade and the City Centre. A new timetable is being introduced allowing buses more time to complete this section of the route. If traffic speeds along this section of road continue to deteriorate, as with route 20, we will have to investigate how we can continue to provide a reliable service on this route, possibly with less buses continuing from the City Centre to Broomfield Hospital.
Route 45 (Moulsham Lodge to Writtle) will have a new timetable on Mondays to Fridays to reflect the congestion experienced, particularly between The Beehive and City Centre where the worst congestion is seen.
Routes 61 (Highwoods to Wivenhoe) and 65 (Highwoods to Stanway) will have a new timetable on Mondays to Fridays, particularly at school times when congestion does not allow the current timetable to be relied upon.
Route 70 (Chelmsford to Colchester) has a minor change to the timetable early on Saturday mornings
Route 100 (Basildon to Lakeside) experiences delays particularly in the weekday afternoons when running from Lakeside to Basildon. Additional time is being given to buses at these times to enable them to complete their trips on time.
Since route 100 was split at Basildon in September, buses are more on time than they have been for a very long time, and this change is designed to allow them to be on time even more often.
Essex Airlink Route X30 (Southend to Chelmsford and Stansted Airport)
We know the changes made to route X30 recently impacted reliability as traffic congestion on Broomfield Road increased significantly following the changes to the highway. We are sorry for this and are therefore introducing a new timetable designed to allow buses to be on time more often.
The new timetable has some buses that do not serve Broomfield Hospital or Broomfield Road at the busiest times on Broomfield Road to remove them from this congestion and allow them to travel via Essex regiment Way.
The journeys that will not serve Broomfield Hospital or Broomfield Road are the 0655, 0755 and 1500 journeys from Stansted Airport and the 1500 from Southend on Mondays to Fridays.
The grounds of Southend Airport will no longer be served, but we will instead serve the stop outside on Eastwoodbury Crescent near the Holiday Inn on most journeys, on all days of the week. A number of journeys from Stansted Airport will not serve this area of Southend and instead travel via the A127 to Southend due to congestion experienced earlier in their journeys.
Buses on route X30 will additionally call at North End, Onslow Green and Ford End, Butchers Arms following requests from customers with no appreciable delay to the buses as they travel through here.
