Mobility Scooters
In accordance with the Department for Transport, we accept Class 2 mobility scooters provided the mobility scooter does not exceed 1000mm long and 600mm wide with a maximum turning circle of 1200mm.
Class 2 scooters may be taken onto public transport, Class 3 cannot.
Class 2 scooters are lightweight and designed for use on pavements with a speed limit of 4mph.
Class 3 scooters are classified as road-going vehicles; they are bigger and heavier, and not suitable for bus travel.
The combined weight of the scooter and the rider must not exceed the safe working load of the ramp used to board the bus, which is normally 300kg.
Mobility scooters are carried subject to the requirements of the CPT Code: www.cpt-uk.org
All users of mobility scooters who are prospective passengers can obtain prior approval of operators and obtain a standard “permit for travel” to ensure it can be carried on-bus.
Passengers should contact Liz Greenwood at Liz.Greenwood@firstbus.co.uk to arrange an assessment.
